Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel: A Different Approach to FPS

CD Projekt RED is working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077. This game may take a different approach.

CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 has seen major improvements since its release with a series of patches and updates. Thanks to these improvements, the game has created a more favorable impression among gamers and its sales have reached a very good level. Following this success, preparations for the sequel accelerated.

Officially announced last year, limited details about this sequel have been shared so far. However, with the latest developments, it has become clear that the sequel could change one of the criticized features of Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk 2077

Paweł Sasko, the director of CD Projekt RED, made some statements about the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, Cyberpunk 2077’s codename Orion. Sasko stated that the new game might not be from a first-person perspective (FPS). Also, when asked if they regretted the first game being an FPS, Sasko said that they don’t, but that the sequel may take a different approach. This statement indicates the possibility of CD Projekt RED utilizing a third-person perspective (TPS) in the sequel.

One of the criticisms of Cyberpunk 2077 was that CD Projekt RED made an FPS game where players only saw their characters in cutscenes. Especially after achieving great success with a TPS game like The Witcher 3, this choice disappointed many players.

Cyberpunk 2077 sequel’s adoption of a different approach from FPS may be met with excitement among gamers. We are eagerly waiting for the details to become clearer over time and to see what kind of experience the new game will offer.
